Another New Carl Zeiss Lens 21mm f/2,8

The team at Carl Zeiss seem to to have dedicated this week just for announcements. Along with the Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 and the Planar T* 85mm f/1.4, Carl Zeiss has announced another new lens to be added to the SLR line-up, the legendary Distagon T* 21mm f/2.8. Ideal for all wide angle requirements, including architecture, landscapes, journalism and anywhere else a lens like this can contribute. Being introduced for SLR cameras with EF (Carl Zeiss for Canon), F (Nikon Mount) and K (Pentax mount) bayonets, these lenses are expected to hit the shelves by the the year ending 2008.
ProPix has always been suggesting the Zeiss lens because of its' ability to render colors, and images just the way a photographer imagines it to be. Freedom to create images, rather than just taking pictures, is how we look at it.
Carl Zeiss 18mm f3.5 was a surprise even for us, but the 21mm f/2.8 nicely rounds off a gap that has existed for some time. I personally can't wait to get my hands on one. Bangalore offers so many photographic opportunities, both for the professional photographers, and also for serious enthusiasts. a Carl Zeiss wide-angle as a walk around lens which can also perform well in low light is an excellent tool to add to the camera bag.

Carl Zeiss For Canon, Definitely

So, we now have the Carl Zeiss site calling it the ZE. Speculation and conjuncture aside, we are really looking forward to the lenses (read original article here).
Sure Canon has some really good lenses. So does Nikon. But Nikon users still turn to a Zeiss lens when they want the best in glass. The Zeiss lenses are sharp. Sharper than any media available today can reproduce. If I want real colors and sharp images, I use a Zeiss lens. After all, I know that when I print the image or share it with a paying customer, I would much rather use a good lens give them what they are paying me for.
Our customers include doctors, and designers, who swear by the results of the 100mm Makro Planar f2, and the Distagon 25mm.
So when someone asked us the other day, why all this fuss about some lens which is yet to reach the market, I could only say, "It's because these are the sharpest lenses in the world. Nothing less".
Oh, and it helps that they are beautifully crafted and engineered to perfection.

Carl Zeiss For Canon EOS ... ?

The Zeiss website is running a teaser campaign on http://www.zeiss.com/photo for some time now. We have had some travelers coming down from around Europe enquiring about the possibility that this is a Canon launch, or is it going to be another one of Sony or Hasselblad lenses. Veterans here however feel that it could more probably be Canon than, anything else.

One professional photographer, an old timer actually, did not rule out the possibility of a camera launch either. Industry watchers are speculating that Carl Zeiss could most probably announce the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f1.4 and/or the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f1.4, at Photokina 2008. They feel that the Distagon series may be a little way off, as yet. This assumption is based on the fact that the teaser campaign on the Zeiss website is timed too close to Photokina for it to be a coincidence. If this is the case, then we would also expect the lens(es) to be to reach the shelves towards the end of 2008 or maybe in the first quarter on 2009.
Carl Zeiss might very soon start gathering Canon EOS photographers into their fold with the launch of a Z? mount EF bayonet lenses. Considered the finest optics in the world, Carl Zeiss lenses have been impressing Nikon camera owners, across the world. If we are to go with the feedback and reviews from Carl Zeiss customers (including both professional photographers, and also serious enthusiasts), we can very well expect the same and more from the Canon community.
The Canon community has been rather typical, and have been showing excitement, and enthusiasm.
For those who want to know about the specs, visit www.ProPix.in and check out the Nikon ZF Mount Planar T* 50mm, and the Nikon ZF Mount Planar T* 85mm. Knowing the Zeiss philosophy of perfection, we know that the Canon lenses are not going to be hugely different from the Nikon mounts.
To speculate on electronics, these lenses may have the electronics to convey metering, distance and everything in between. After all, that is already available for the Nikon, Sony and Pentax mounts, so why not the Canon mount? If the lenses have electronics, then we can expect the lenses to provide exif data, carrying all the info.

But the most active speculation we see though has been on whether these lenses will be manual or auto focus.
Now to wait and watch. We know that almost everyone has something or the other that they are launching

ZF lenses provide Nikon F-mount cameras with the creative potential and photo-technical performance available so far only in the Contax system. In addition, ZF lenses incorporate new technical advances from the ZEISS Ultra Prime®, Master Prime® and DigiPrime® lenses for motion picture cameras. While Carl Zeiss ZF manual-focus lenses can be fitted to these cameras, the cameras will provide no metering to assist exposure. The cameras can be used in manual exposure mode in conjunction with an external exposure meter.

Manual focus Carl Zeiss ZF lenses can be used on the cameras with limitations on exposure modes A (aperture priority) and M (manual). For metering, one can use center-weighted or spot-metering. Note: it may be necessary to activate a custom mode setting in order to use manual focus lenses on some of these cameras. Please check the camera instruction books for further information.

By specifying lens data (focal length and maximum aperture)) using the ‘Non-CPU Lenses’ menu option, it is possible to access a variety of CPU lens functions when using a manual focus lens.
If focal length is set in the camera menu:

• If maximum aperture is set in the camera menu:
• Aperture value is displayed in top control panel and viewfinder
